Volunteers
Volunteers play a valuable part in enriching the lives of our
residents and they bring a unique energy to the entire community.
By contributing time, special skills, and a
"caring heart", you can make a difference and enhance the quality of
life of older adults. We value the dedication of our volunteers and encourage
involvement in all aspects of our community's life. They are an integral part
of our "total care" team.
At AON Long Term Care homes, volunteers have the
opportunity to make new friends and to encounter new experiences, skills and
challenges. Most volunteers commit to an ongoing number of hours per week or
per month -- and often create their own positions based on their interests and
talents. Others find volunteering an excellent way to brush up on job skills
before returning to the workforce and make a short-term commitment instead. We
also encourage high school and college students in Co-operative Education
programs to consider us for a work experience placement.
Depending upon your time, interests, and skills,
our homes offer a wide variety of challenging and fulfilling volunteer
positions. Some typical roles include:
- Friendly visitor
- Dining assistant
- Driver / escort
- Arts and crafts assistant
- Gardening/Horticulture
- Singing, music and entertainment
- Spiritual programs
- Woodworking and hobbies
- Library assistant
- Palliative care visitor
